US Secretary of State Blinken met Netanyahu
The meeting lasted for three hours, Blinken said – this is the last chance for a ceasefire
Amid the war between Israel and Hamas, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The two had a long conversation in Jerusalem. The Israeli PM's office said on social media, "The three-hour meeting was positive. The Prime Minister has emphasized the US proposal for the release of our hostages. Israel's security and requirements were kept in mind in the meeting."
Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that this is the last chance to stop the Gaza war and bring the hostages back home. Blinken arrived on a visit to Israel on Sunday. He also met Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
According to news agency AFP, Blinken has visited the Middle East 9 times since the war started on October 7. He said that US President Joe Biden has sent him to completely end the Gaza war.
Blinken said that now the time has come to complete the work. Everyone should say 'yes' and not look for any excuse to say 'no'. Now no one should take any step that derails the process of talks. We will ensure that there is no tension and no one takes any provocative action.
Hamas did not participate in the ceasefire deal
Earlier, on 15 and 16 August, talks were held in Doha between representatives of Israel, America, Qatar and Egypt regarding ceasefire. Hamas did not participate in these talks. After the talks, US President Biden said that we are very close to the ceasefire deal. However, Hamas has opposed the inclusion of new conditions in the ceasefire deal.
The second phase of the ceasefire deal talks are to be held in Egypt this week. The Israeli delegation left for Egypt on Sunday evening for these talks.
Israeli attacks continue amid talks
There has been no reduction in Israeli action in Gaza amid all the ongoing efforts for ceasefire.
On Sunday (August 18), 25 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza. The dead included a woman and her 6 children. The woman's youngest child was just 10 months old.
On the other hand, Israel is also attacking Lebanon. On Sunday, 10 people were killed in a strike by Israel in southern Lebanon. 5 other people were also injured in this attack. 2 children are also among those killed.
All the people killed in the attack were Syrian citizens. Two Israeli soldiers were injured in the rocket attack by Hezbollah.
Tensions between Israel and Iran after Haniyeh's death
Tensions between Israel and Iran have increased since the death of Hamas chief Haniyeh in Iran on July 31 last month. Haniyeh had gone to Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pazshkian.
Iran had said that Israel was behind Haniyeh's death. After this, Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei had said that Israel would take revenge for Haniyeh's death.
On the other hand, America has deployed warships, aircraft carriers and submarines in the Middle East to protect Israel.
40 thousand Palestinians died in Gaza.
The number of Palestinians who died in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas has crossed 40 thousand. Gaza's Health Ministry gave this information on Thursday, August 15. More than 90 thousand people have been injured so far in Israeli attacks on Gaza.
The figures released by the ministry also include Hamas terrorists. The death toll could be even higher. Many bodies are still buried under the rubble.
It has been almost 11 months since this war between Israel and Hamas. On 7 October last year, Hamas terrorists attacked Israel. About 1200 Israeli citizens were killed in this attack. The terrorists took about 250 people hostage to Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (August 16). Modi informed about this through a post on X. He said that Netanyahu congratulated him on India's 78th Independence Day.
The tension in West Asia was also discussed between the two Prime Ministers. Modi asked the Israeli Prime Minister to end the war with Hamas through dialogue and diplomacy. He also stressed on the immediate release of all hostages and ceasefire.
